20 Journaling Prompts

  • Write a letter to your younger self – what would you say to the child you used to be? What are the things that you wish you had been told as a child?
  • Write about your favorite songs – What songs have been there for you when you have needed them most? What is the most encouraging music to you? Do you prefer instrumentals or music with lyrics?
  • What could you do today to take better care of yourself? What are some small things that could improve your life not only here and now but in the long run?
  • What are your current coping strategies? How do you get through when things get hard? Who or what do you turn to when you need extra support?
  • What is one of your biggest dreams?
  • Write down some self-destructive habits – Where do you think they came from? What new, healthier habits could you work on replacing them with?
  • Write about something you feel guilty about – When did it happen? What does it feel like now? What are some steps you could take to begin to forgive yourself?

  • How do social interactions affect you? Which people lift you up and which ones bring you down? Who do you spend the most time with? Why?
  • What activities help you to relax? What do you do to wind down after a stressful day? If you don’t have any, what are some ideas that you could try?
  • Write about small things you can control – What are some things that are completely up to you? The smaller the better.
  • Write down five things you are grateful for.
  • Write about stress – What do you think contributes the most to your stress?What situations bring on the most anxiety? What helps you to handle it?  
  • Write abouts social media – What forms of social media do you participate in? How does it affect your mood and thoughts? Is it a tool to you or does it control you?
